I don’t like the really dark theme. The newer Preferred Applications dialog looks interesting, though.

useless, time wasters i thought something interesting !!!!lets hope final brings something worth watching

  • 3 kaddy // Jun 29, 2008 at 5:10 am

it looks a hell of alot better than the default ugly orange/brown theme!

  • 4 simon // Jun 29, 2008 at 5:22 am

This theme looks great compared to the old one, just needs a bit more polish :)
I hate the brown and orange look of the past Ubuntu’s, arghhhh.

  • 5 maka // Jun 29, 2008 at 5:23 am

I agree with both of you. It looks much better so far, but alot of tweaking with the theme is yet to be done until the final release :)

  • 6 fatboy // Jun 29, 2008 at 5:26 am

I think it looks better, but still…. Gnome sux, always has, always will.. no matter what colours you throw at it. KDE ftw! Gnome developers must be a bunch of old gits with crap taste that never think of anything new and interesting, therefor…. Gnome looks older than a Windows 95 Desktop!

  • 7 Myke // Jun 29, 2008 at 6:58 am

@fatboy - And others could argue that KDE looks like it was made by a bunch of half blind gits. Everything is so huge by default which is not necessary. Nevertheless both are customizable and both of have their pros and cons.

About this NewHuman theme, I can’t say that I care for it much. I like certain dark themes but I would never choose a brown one.

I don’t like this new theme. It’s horrible. I don’t know why they don’t change it?
    Somebody knows?

This theme is really awful. I hope they either change it or revert back to the previous theme.

Are you Crazy!??? You Guys like the Default Brown and Orange Theme!??? argh, YUK!
I agree that this theme needs to be worked on alot more, But ANYTHING is better than the Default Theme, Ubuntu is the Ugliest Distro in the Linux World!
Even Fedora Looks Beautiful, for a gnome desktop. Ubuntu NEEDS! a Makover! And i hope they get it Lookin Good in the next release

    Can everyone chill out please!

The Ubuntu Art Team decided that it was necessary to TEST dark themes so we could find the BUGS to report to application developers. The idea was so that IF A USER or distrubtion wants to have a dark theme there aren’t any problems doing that (until recently it has been very problematic)

Because the Ubuntu alphas have fairly good developer visability it was felt that running a dark theme on early alphas would be the best way to achieve this… So, if you see specific bugs, post them. If you just don’t like it, chill out and it will get better :)

I don’t like this either. I have Ubuntu 8.04, and installed the Gnome SlicknesS theme and looks much better than this. It is black as well; but it is much more polished. Not only that, you can change the color and keep the polished look. Ubuntu is good, but they just can’t seem to catch up to the look. I have look at them all(Linux), and Ubuntu seems to be the most reliable and update; yet not easy on the eyes.

I love Ubuntu, but I have to say that although I give them full credit to try something other than the usual blue/silver that exist everywhere, this theme looks like dung. I think they should do an orange theme like the mandriva one and move away from the brown.

Nice, I like it very much… clean and elegant.

Oh and for those that dont like the brown, you can change the colors to whatever you want if you go to Customize Theme and play with the colors on the “color” tab. I like to do this often, by using the eye dropper on different areas on my Desktop Background. This way your theme always matches whatever background you have. At the moment, mine is a nice green.

    ^_^
