Gajim is a full featured and easy to use instant messenger. After you install Gajim, you’ll need to configure your client to connect to the Google Talk service.

  1. Run Gajim.
  2. From the Edit menu, select Accounts.
  3. Click New from the Accounts window.
  4. Select I already have an account I want to use, and click Forward.

  5. Enter the following information:
    • Username: Your Google Talk username.
    • Server: Enter gmail.com.
    • Password: Your Google Talk password.

    After complete, click Forward.

    Gajim

  6. Uncheck Connect when I press Finish, click Finish.

Good instruction, but you shouldn’t need to change to SSL and port 5223, just Hostname to talk.google.com and let port be its default value 5222.

And as Lyceuhns wrote, you should/could change your resource part of the Jabber ID (JID) to something other than program name. Usally to the computers name or you location (Home, Work, School, London or whatever). If you do that, you can be logged in from many places at the same time. As long as you have different resources.
You change Resource name under tab Account

(Why Google hasn’t fixed so we won’t need to enter different hostname don’t know. It is not rocket science to make it work without this. Just google on it and you will find out how to do it)

with the svn-build of gajim its important that you must not use a custom hostname/port. also its imposible to select “use ssl”
on the up-side you just have to type in your username, password and gmail.com/googlemail.com the rest should be sorted out by gajim itself.
