Ubuntu is currently the most popular Linux distribution. Ubuntu 7.10 (codename Gutsy Gibbon) will be released tomorrow. Do you really know all about new features and improvements of Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon?

1. Kernel 2.6.22

Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon includes Linux Kernel 2.6.22, X.org 7.2, glibc 2.6, and GCC 4.2.

2. GNOME 2.20

Ubuntu 7.10 brings you the latest GNOME 2.20 desktop environment.

3. Compiz Fusion 0.5.2

Compiz Fusion is enabled by default.

4. OpenOffice.org 2.3.0

Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon brings you the latest OpenOffice.org 2.3.0 office suite.

5. GIMP 2.4.0 RC 3

GIMP 2.4.0 RC 3 includes new default icon theme, new crop tool, align tool, scalable brushes and so on. In addition, the selection tools have been rewritten from scratch.

6. Desktop search

Deskbar applet is now included in the default configuration. Tracker indexer has been added to the desktop.

7. Bulletproof X and Graphical configuration tool

You can now configure driver for graphic card, change default resolution and change monitor’s refresh rate with this tool. With Bulletproof X, you can save your broken X.conf.

8. Fast user switching

This allow you easily switch between user sessions.

9. Printer installation

Printer setup is pretty easy.

10. Ubufox

You can now install Firefox extensions from Add/Remove.

11. Restricted manager

Restricted manager can now better handling of non-free drivers.

12. Artwork

Ubuntu 7.10 includes new wallpapers.

    When I install Ubuntu 7.10 my system becomes too slow. I have Intel 3 Ghz processor and 1000 MB Ram.

    Can you suggest how to disable the extra features like compiz fusion etc so that it acts light?
